Computer is Back

I finally have my computer and its almost back to the way it was. The hard drive was replaced and nothing could be retrieved from the old one. I needed a new battery and power cord as well. All was covered under warranty. I had a full backup from 4/19/09 but when I restored, several programs needed to be reinstalled, Photoshop, Parallels and Windows were unusable. I lost some art that was in progress or ready to post and some saved mail but oh well...

The time away from DA and my computer was very relaxing and productive, I may continue to take time away but I will check in often. In the mean time, I was surprised to see that I had passed 70,000 page views... I am honored! Thank you all for visiting!

My Plea

   I would like to address something that has recently come to my attention.  It seems that some people have taken flames from flamepacks, made small changes then posted them as their own work. This is both copyright infringement and not the purpose of resources.

There has always been a large amount of controversy over fractal resources. Especially with Apophysis users. Some very respected fractal artists are purists, meaning they only create fractals from scratch and never use scripts or pre-made flames. Many others believe that it is acceptable to use these resources for learning and to aid in the creation of their art. I belong to the second group. That is why I administer #Fractal-Resources, because I believe in helping people learn.  It is the teacher in me that believes that knowledge is to be shared and that the benefits outweigh the risks.

That said, when one or two people abuse resources it is bad for everyone because fewer artist will share their knowledge. The truth is that more people benefit from the resources and use them properly than those that don't. Here is my plea: Let's all help teach people how to use the resources by being good role models!  Learn how to give proper credit and to make sure we use the resources in the spirit that they meant to be used.

The New Year

The end of 2008 and the start of 2009 got me thinking of what has happened this year.  In the end (today) my glass is always half full as I am optimistic about the future.  I decided to post this here to remind myself that my life is good and I have been blessed with friends and family and my pets.  Nothing is more important than those things.  Material possessions only bring temporary happiness, but friends bring joy all the time.

The Good:
2008 brought some great changes for me at work.  I taught an online class for the first time and it went well.  I was able to resolve many issues for our union faculty.  I taught classes I really enjoyed and the students were great this year.  I love my job.

I have many wonderful and generous friends who truly care about me.  My sons are growing into amazing men who are thoughtful and fun and they love me as much as I love them.  My Family supported me in everything I did this year. My dogs are all healthy and happy and so are my cats!  I love my home and land and really feel content here.

I was able to refine my skills with Apophysis and made some great art.  I found new friends on DA and am grateful for this community.  I love the artists here.  I produced 12 monthly color articles which allowed me to find art all over DA to feature.  I learned CSS coding!
I tried to give back to the Fractal Community through #FractalDreams and #Fractal-Resources and had fun while doing both!

The Bad:
Finances!   I was sued by my Father's nursing home for $35,000 and had to use all my savings to hire an attorney to represent me.  When they wouldn't settle for any reasonable amount, I was forced to file for Federal Bankruptcy Protection in Dec and hire yet another attorney to help with that.  (The results are still unknown, I have a court date for Jan.)

I am severely restricted by a new, very tight, budget.  This means I don't go out even to see a movie, can't get anything new, and have to watch every penny very closely.  This is very hard because I love to be generous and give gifts, but can't right now.  My preferred lifestyle is greatly hampered but I still have my computer and internet access so far.

The Ugly:
I gained weight and my body feels old.  I am still single and not dating. (some by choice, but mostly because I don't meet people).  My home needs repairs and cleaning that I can't do (or won't).  Some of my fractals this year were really bad and so were my feeble attempts at photomanips.  I am addicted to Exclamation points!
